Is cohousing right for you? A personal visit to a variety of cohousing communities offers you an experience that no photo, website or book can offer. This tour is organized and sponsored by the National Cohousing Association, not SBC. The following information is taken directly from their website.
Come join us on this “traveling workshop” and very special tour of a rich variety of the Central and Western Massachusetts communities.
As you travel between each location on a comfortable bus, the guide will give participants a chance to introduce themselves, share general information about cohousing, answer questions, provide fact sheets and site plans, and prepare you for your ~45-minute visit to each community. At each stop, a community host will guide your group through his or her neighborhood and answer questions. We look forward to having you join us for a day full of learning, community building and fun. On this tour you will visit these five communities:
- Mosaic Commons (Berlin, MA)
- Camelot Cohousing (Berlin, MA)
- Pioneer Valley Cohousing (Amherst, MA)
- Rocky Hill Cohousing (Northampton, MA)
- Pathways Cohousing (Northampton, MA)
This tour will be led by Laura Fitch, a resident of Pioneer Valley Cohousing since 1994. She discovered her interest in cohousing in 1980 in Denmark where she studied and toured a number of the early Danish communities. An architect with Kraus-Fitch Architects, Laura specializes in the design of cohousing communities and common houses. She enjoys sharing stories of how her community gets the work done, parenting children in community, and how she believes site and architectural design can support or detract from the community experience.
The tour cost includes a yummy lunch which you will enjoy at one of our host communities in the company of some of its residents. The tour will start and end at the Riverside T Station in Newton which also has a convenient parking lot.
Please visit the National Cohousing Association web site for more information.
